Three possible routes
During the route to the Heuvelland and Ypres, you can enjoy the sloping landscapes and numerous cemeteries of the fallen soldiers of WOI. You will pass Tyne Cot Cemetery at Passchendaele, Hill 60 at Zillebeke and ‘eigen kweek’-village Wijtschate. At the foot of the Kemmel- and Monteberg you will see lots of panoramic views typical for the Heuvelland. Through Kemmel you will ride towards Ypres with its fortress, Cloth Halls and Menin Gate.
Polders of Bruges
Through Oostkamp you cross the polders of Bruges to eventually reach intimate Damme. Here you can wander around through the narrow streets with their old buildings, or walk past the canal. On the way back you’ll drive through the historical centre of Bruges. There you can stop at the Great Market or eat a refreshing ice cream at ‘Gelateria Da Vinci’.
The route towards Diksmuide gives you also a diverse offer of sights with a WOI history. There is the Deutsche Soldatenfriedhof, the Mill of Peace and the Epernon bunker. At Dikmsuide you will ride along the Yser Tower and the Trench of Death. On the way back you’ll pass a German military cemetery en the Käthe Kollwitz and Frenchmen museum. But the route offers even more than that; Stadenberg, the Cave of Lourdes at Houthulst, the plains of the Yser, picturesque villages surrounding Diksmuide and plenty eat and drink opportunities.
